Studying the math and physics behind successful strategic combat choices in EVE.
Greetings Dr Santorine.I have been working with your orbit equations, and I fear I am misinterpreting them, as they are not working for me as you have them presented. Misinterpreting is the most likely reason, but I would be interested in discussing this with you (on a much lower level) if/when you have time and/or interest. Thanks for your time. Allan
Allan,I'm sorry for the delay in my replying. Life gets busy in the summer. I would be very happy to help you. We could communicate on EVEMail (Scheulagh Santorine), or even on tweetfleet slack if you would like. Send me a note on one of those two platforms. If you don't have either of those, then we can do email. My gmail is in my 'About Me' section. Which equations and motion predictions are you having trouble with? What kind of tools are you trying to work with for the equations? Let me know and I can try to help you with details. S.Santorine
Greetings Dr. Santorine.I am not sure if my previous comment went through or not, so I am sending again. After trying your closed-form equations, I fear I am either not completely understanding them, or I am misinterpreting, as I haven't used this kind of math in >20 years. What I have found is the equations are fairly accurate for orbits using frigate and jetcan, but varies when using other ships and/or targets, even when including the non-zero target radius. With that said, I would like to discuss my findings with you, on a lower level(I am not an engineer), if you have the time and/or interest.Thank you for your time and interest in this subject, and sharing it with the community.Allan
Allan,Thanks for the follow-up note. Your previous comments did get to me albeit some weeks late. The equations are accurate for orbits around a jet-can because the jet-can has a small zero-meter-radius of its own. If you are orbiting a ship you have to account for a larger radius. You can determine what radius you need to add to the effective radius with some experimentation. I have not compiled a list of object sizes because I only have one EVE account. If you'd be interested in helping me perhaps we could make a list of actual object sizes? I am interested in learning more about your results. Shoot me an email and we can talk. If you have data or experimental work to contribute, I'd love to have you write a post or share it somewhere that I can point to (and give you credit of course). Regards,S. Santorine
